Kingaroy SHS is one of several schools involved in the QLD Gateway to Wine Tourism Schools project. This State Government initiative aims to create opportunities in the wine tourism industry for interested students. The project involves several schools, as well as SQIT, USQ and the College of Wine Tourism.
Nature of Involvement:
Cross curricular work: Wine Tourism is addressed across a range of subject areas including Chemistry, English Communications, Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Tourism, Hospitality Practices and Hospitality Studies.
Explicit Curriculum: The proposed Year 10 Wine Tourism and Cellar Door introduction covers aspects of wine theory, events planning, promotion, & media, practical vineyard skills and labelling/branding and cellar door.
Industry Experience: Kingaroy students have the opportunity to attain on-going industry placement at a range of Hospitality and Wine Tourism venues throughout the South Burnett, involving cellar door, vineyard maintenance, kitchen work and events preparation.
