| Social Science is offered at all year levels at Kingaroy State High and is compulsory for all students from the beginning of Year 8 until the end of Semester 1 in Year 10. In the majority of Social Science classes, excursions and field trips are an integral part of the learning process. |

In Year 8, students study S.O.S.E., which comprises history, geography and citizenship. Skills that are developed include: keeping notebooks with pride, note-taking, time lines, primary & secondary sources, structured paragraphs, study skills, map interpretation, climographs, weather maps, reference lists, in-text referencing, paragraph writing, hypothesis formation, document interpretation, using clinometers, field sketches, contours, vegetation profiles, speaking in public & writing palm cards.
The units are:
• What is History?
• What is Geography?
• Weather, Ancient Civilisations
• Australian Environments
• Australia’s Political & Legal System
In Year 9 & the first half of year 10, students also study S.O.S.E. Skills that are continuously developed are: note taking, climographs, changing information formats, mapping, document interpretation, paragraph writing, field sketching, map interpretation, topographic maps & cross sections, remote sensing interpretation, public speaking techniques, reference lists, taxation steps, voting formats, graph & table interpretation, poster, photo & cartoon interpretation, in-text referencing, survey questions, hypothesis & working question writing.
The units are:
• Desert Survival OR Antarctica OR Rainforests
• Life in Medieval Times OR Renaissance & Reformation.
• Agricultural Systems
• Ancient China OR Societies in Revolution
• Government in Australia
• Australia & the Wars
• Coastal Studies
• Independent Study (own choice topic)
In second semester Year 10, students can choose from a variety of introductory subjects that provide a taste of what the subject will be like in Year 11.
These include:
• Introduction to Senior History
• Introduction to Legal Studies
• Introduction to CSI (Community & Social Investigations)
• Introduction to Economics & Geography
In Year 11 & 12, students have five Authority subjects, one stand-alone VET, and one Authority-registered subject to choose from in Social Science. They are:
• Geography (Authority)
• Ancient History (Authority)
• Legal Studies (Authority)
• Modern History (Authority)
• Economics (Authority)
• Tourism (stand alone VET)
• CSI (Authority-registered)
