SCHOOL UNIFORM
Rationale:
The Education Queensland policy is that the Principal, in consultation with the school community will determine school policy on student dress standards.
Kingaroy State High School P & C Association has resolved that it supports a student dress code policy for Kingaroy State High School because it believes that it promotes the objectives of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, and in particular that it:
· promotes a safe environment for learning by enabling ready identification of students and non-students of the school;
· promotes an effective teaching and learning environment by eliminating the distraction of competition in dress and fashion at the school;
· promotes a supportive environment at the school by fostering a sense of belonging;
· fosters mutual respect among individuals at the school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social differences.
FORMAL UNIFORM: BOYS
· Long grey pants or navy blue cotton drill shorts (mid thigh to knee length).

JEWELLERY:
Jewellery is to be kept to a minimum to avoid losses and possible injuries.
Students may wear:
• one wrist chain or bangle;
• minimal rings – only if in a flat setting;
• one neck chain worn inside the shirt;
• studs or small sleepers in pierced ears ‑ NO dangling or coloured earrings are to be worn.
Because of the danger of injury to the wearer or others engaged in sport, it is strongly recommended that students do not wear jewellery when playing sport.
BODY & FACE PIERCING:
It is not appropriate, for health and safety reasons and for reasons of positive image for the entire school body, for students to have any visible body piercing while they are at school. This includes piercings on the face, mouth, eyebrows, nose, tongue or neck. Reasonable ear piercings are allowable.
HAIR STYLES:
Neat simple styles are required. Hair should be back from eyes at all times. Long hair needs to be secured for practical activities.
SPECIAL NOTES ABOUT UNIFORM:
1. Other coloured socks are not acceptable.
2. Variations to jackets/sweatshirts as specified are not acceptable; just because it is blue does not make it a part of the school uniform.
3. Clothing for special purposes, e.g. Year level jerseys may be worn on particular days of the week as instructed to students.
4. Jeans cannot be accepted as part of the school uniform.
5. Sports T‑shirts in any style other than the prescribed style are not acceptable.
6. Pleated skirts are not considered part of the uniform.
7. Corduroy, knits or shiny style shorts are not considered appropriate.
8. Students are encouraged to wear protective sunglasses for outdoor activities.
9. Students must wear a hat for outdoor activities.
10. On Tuesdays formal socks (long grey socks – boys; short blue socks/navy stockings– girls) must be worn. Students may also choose to wear them on other days.
DRESS FOR MATURE AGE STUDENTS:
Students may wear school uniform or a suitable alternative by arrangement with the Principal.
School references comment on grooming and dress.
FORMAL SCHOOL UNIFORM (i.e. blazer, tie, skirt, grey trousers) is available for “one-off” functions. A $5 bond is required at time of borrowing and returned when the uniform is returned in good condition.
Strategies to Deal with Students not Wearing Uniform:
1. Assistance with uniforms is available for families experiencing financial hardship. Students and/or parents need to contact the Administration or the Chaplain to access this assistance.
2. A bank of school uniform items is held at the school so that a student who presents without being dressed according to the student dress code (major items of uniform) will be offered the opportunity to wear one. Students will access this uniform bank by:
* reporting to a member of the Administration immediately upon arriving at school, or
* being sent to a member of the Administration by their form teacher during form/assembly or by their first teacher of the day.
3. If for any reason a student cannot be supplied with an item of clothing from the uniform bank, they will be given a special card to show they have made a legitimate attempt to comply with the dress code. Students must be able to present this card on request.
4. If, when offered an item to comply with the dress code, a student unreasonably refuses to put it on, the student can be sanctioned for non-adherence to a school policy and dealt with according to the school’s behaviour management policy. (Step Three - Administration)
