My name is Nathan Fairbairn and I was a previous member of the KSHS community and graduated in 2016. I am now spending 2017 studying abroad in Sweden on a Rotary exchange.
As an exchange student, I am presented with opportunities that regular tourists do not have the opportunity to experience. One of the more recent of these was being invited to attend the ANZAC Day commemorations in Gothenburg alongside the Australian, New Zealand and Turkish ambassadors to Sweden. I left my home town of Nässjö at about 5:30am to catch a bus to the city for the 11am ceremony. The ceremony itself, although brief, was very moving due to the presence of many active Australian servicemen. After this ceremony we went to a reception in the centre of the city which gave us the chance to engage with all the invited guests. I had quite a long conversation with the Australian ambassador about all kinds of things and we ended on the topic of the New Columbo plan which is encouraging University students to study overseas in a hope to expand Australia’s economic reach. This was an amazing opportunity that I was more than honoured to have been invited to experience.
